BMW Is Finally Making An i8 Spyder

You knew it was coming, we knew it was coming, BMW has certainly planned it all along, and seems like the world is now finally deemed ready to get the open top hybrid sportscar experience that is the BMW i8 Spyder.

According to the interview BMW’s CEO Harald Krueger gave to the German newspaper Handelsblatt, the i8 Spyder is a go, which makes us wonder whether it will debut as early as the Detroit Auto Show, or more like at the traditional stage for exotics and supercars, the Geneva Motor Show in late February.

Either way, since the Spyder will have to be heavier than the coupe, it will also give BMW a great opportunity to introduce it a power upgrade to both versions, which could mean the i8 getting a high performance battery pack like the i3 did for next year, or even a higher displacement turbo engine. Whichever way they go, it’s going to give us faster i8s before we could start wondering what the next generation will bring.
